Fort Carson soldier follows mother’s foot steps 13 years later at Homecoming

115 Fort Carson soldiers from the 10th Combat Support Hospital were reunited with their families Tuesday morning.

The “Mountain Medics” left Fort Carson in December 2015 for a deployment to Kuwait to provide medical mission command and health service support to U.S. and coalition forces throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

It’s been nine months of waiting for many families, but it’s been years for the Moll family.

“This was taken 13 years ago when I deployed in 2003. This is our daughter Rachel, who’s coming back today from her first deployment in Kuwait,” said Cathy Moll, Dennis’ mother.

Thirteen years later, the roles are reversed.

“My mom first came back from Kuwait in this very room, and we received her from Kuwait and now she’s receiving me,” said Dennis, a Fort Carson soldier.

Receiving with the same exact banner Rachel made for her mom 13 years ago.

“We saved it. So now it’s coming back around to our family again to welcome her home,” Moll said.

Signs filled the room thanking soldiers for their service.

“It’s incredible. After nine months this is all I can wish for,” said Michael Morales, another soldier.

“As a veteran myself, I have to say that my emotions and the most important thing right now is pride. Not only for my son, but for all of the combat veterans who went with him,” said Irving Morales, Morale’s father.

One soldier’s daughter said she’s ready to have her dad by her side again.

“It’s fantastic. It’s awesome. I’m glad to be here,” said Jason Reynolds, a Fort Carson soldier.

“He missed graduation and me learning to drive; a lot of things. But he’ll be here now,” said Alea Reynolds, Jason’s daughter.

For many soldiers it was about being back home in the arms of loved ones. For others, it was about following their family’s legacy.

“It’s surreal,” Dennis said.

Another homecoming ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday night at 5:15 p.m. Twenty Fort Carson soldiers from the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division are returning.
