PCC students simulate 9/11 stair climb

People around the nation extended the time to honor 9/11 into Monday, including a group of students in Pueblo.

A few fire science students with Pueblo Community College climbed the stairs of the amphitheater on Monday to equal the 110 stories stories firefighters climbed on September 11, 2016.

The students also wore 75 pounds worth of gear to simulate the amount of weight the first responders wore.

“You start realizing what the firefighters went through when they did the 110 flights. It’s amazing that there were people that did it within the hour, it’s just impressive,” said James McNally.

“Hearing everything that went on, again, it’s just heart wrenching. It’s terrible to know what they had to go through,” said Megan DeGeorge.

Students said the climb was very hard, but realized it was very different compared to what the first responders had to go through on that tragic day.
