Highway to top of Mount Evans closed until next summer

The only way to get to the top of Mount Evans without hiking closed on Tuesday and will remain that way until next summer.

CDOT says the five-mile stretch of the Mount Evans Highway is typically shut down from Summit Lake the day after Labor Day under an agreement with the U.S. Forestry Service.

The Highway is America’s highest paved Road.

The area sees more than 150,000 visitors each summer.

The road is expected to reopen the Friday before Memorial Day, weather permitting.
