Fort Carson soldiers return from 9-month deployment in Afghanistan
A big welcome home for nearly 180 Fort Carson soldiers who returned from deployment to Afghanistan.
For the first time in nearly a year, Fort Carson soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 4th Infantry Division are home.
For months, 11-year-old Kyla Luble could only talk to her dad over the phone.
“[He said] that he’d be home soon and that it’s okay,” said, Kyla Luble daughter.
She’s been waiting nine months to do one thing. “Go out and hug him,” said Luble.
Like all of the families, it’s a moment is one they will never forget.
“It was a long nine months. It’s good to be home and get everyone home safe,” said Jacob Luble, a Fort Carson soldier.
The soldiers deployed in February for Afghanistan where they assisted in operations to promote security and stability.
For some of these families, it’s the first time they’ve been together in years.
“This is nine months in the making. It’s been a real long time, probably about seven years since we’ve all been together,” said St. Clair Allen, a Fort Carson soldier.
Alan Metzler was eager and relieved to see his son again.
“We’re anxious to see him, we’ve kept in touch with him for the last nine months,” Metzler said.
“It’s just a huge relief. It wouldn’t be the same without their support. I wouldn’t be here without him,” said Eric Metzler, a Fort Carson soldier.
Posters and cheers filled the events center, a sign of the amount of support for our service men and women.
The next Fort Carson homecoming is scheduled for November.
