Man dead, deputy identified in Parker shooting incident

UPDATE:

A man is dead after Douglas County Sheriffs Office say he shot a deputy in a shooting rampage near multiple schools.

Authorities responded to a report of a man with a gun near the area of Dixon Drive and Alpine Drive. They say the man got into a mobile home as deputies arrived. He started shooting at deputies and Parker police.

The man was shot and killed by police. Deputy Daniel Brite was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He’s been with the sheriff’s office since April 2014.

Sierra Middle School, Pine Lane Intermediate and Pine Lane Primary were on lock down during the shooting. No students or staff were hurt or involved.

An investigation into a report of a man with a gun near a school ended with that man dead and a deputy hurt Friday.

The incident happened near Sierra Middle School, at North Dixon Drive and Pine Lane, in Parker.

Acccording to FOX 31 Denver, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot. The deputy’s condition has not been released.

Police told the Denver television station that the shooting happened after police were called to a home near the school. Police say the man fired his gun at arriving officers and then got into an RV.

What happened after that has not been confirmed by police, but it appears the man crashed the RV after being shot by officers.

Parker is located off of Highway 83 about 52 miles north of Colorado Springs.
