Section of Slocum Road closed due to high water

A section of Slocum Road is closed due to high water caused by Monday’s storms.

Detours are in place about 1 miles north of Highway 94. Detour signs will direct traffic across Amo Road, to Kennedy Road, to Davis Road and to Curtis Road. Message boards will be in place at Highway 94 and Jones and Curtis Roads.

The Department of Public Works reports that heavy water flows have created a huge cavern under the pavement on bridge approaches and have started to washout the abutment on the north side of the bridge.

County road crews are in the process of placing barricades at both ends of the bridge and those will remain in place until further notice.

This is the second time in two weeks that a portion of this road has had to close due to heavy rain. The previous closure was to fix the south abutment.
