Dogs who killed woman, attacked son in Jefferson Co. to be euthanized

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that the dogs that killed one owner and attacked the other are going to be euthanized.

Susan Shawl, 60, was found dead off Black Widow Drive on Monday night. Her son, 36-year-old Richard Shawl, suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the attack and was transported to a local hospital.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Richard gave officials permission on Tuesday to euthanize the dogs.

In 2008, Richard was issued a warning about the dogs after neighbors complained that they had gotten loose and were acting aggressive.
