195 Fort Carson troops return from Afghanistan

195 troops from the 4th infantry Division and 4th Combat Aviation Brigade returned home to their families Saturday night.

As you can imagine, there were lots of smiles and tears of joy on display; a reunion that was months in the making.

We spoke to Heather Perina as she awaited her husband’s entrance into the event hall.

“He’s been gone nine months, and it’s been hard,” Perina told NewsChannel 13, “it’s like going back to being a single mom again”

Moments later, however, the wait was over. We saw a few tackles that would have made the Broncos proud, as nervous anticipation turned into pure exuberance.

For some, like Corporal Glynn Herndon, the reunion had extra significance; he got to hold his five month old son for the first time Saturday.

The aviation soldiers, who provide ground support to air fighters, were deployed to Afghanistan this past December.

Member of the 4th ID were deployed back in February.
