Driver cited after hitting ambulance, failure to yield police say

A Colorado Springs driver was cited by police after hitting an ambulance, causing it to rollover.

The accident happened at 8:30 Friday night at North Academy and Palmer Park Blvd.

An early investigation revealed the ambulance was responding to a call, driving eastbound on Palmer Park with its emergency lights and sirens on, police said.

The ambulance had just cleared this intersection when it was struck on the left rear by a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Academy Blvd. The driver failed to yield the right of way, even though the light was green for southbound traffic.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was cited for the accident. After the crash, occupants from both vehicles were treated and released from area hospitals with minor injuries.
