Pedestrian struck and killed in Aurora

Authorities have identified the man who was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking across the street with his friend in Aurora.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/2c8KIsz ) that 22-year-old Dalton McCreary died after being struck by the SUV Monday. His 18-year-old friend credited McCreary with saving his life, saying he pushed him out of the SUV’s path.

The driver, 41-year-old Christopher O’Neil Tarr, has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence. He was released Wednesday on $50,000 bail.

Police say Tarr ran a red light at a high rate of speed and had tried to turn when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the victim.

Police say they have video footage of the crash, which will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office.
