Lack of vaccinations cause concern amongst parents, doctors

soon — should you, or shouldn’t you vaccinate your children before they go to school? krdo newschannel 13’s heather skold is getting the answer from medical experts. :14 “one two three, poke” it’s safe to say .. :34 “it’s a special bandaid” no one likes getting a shot. :00 brief natural sound but data shows… it’s not just kids — it’s a growing number of parents who don’t like shots, either. surprisingly, colorado has the lowest vaccination rate in the nation among kindergartners, at 86-point-9 percent. mississippi, with the highest, at 99-point-2 percent. colorado law is especially lax… like other states, it allows parents to opt out, for medical or religious reasons… but also for personal reasons. even still only point-1 percent of parents are formally opting out — again, the lowest in the nation. it all means, a large chunk just aren’t getting their kids vaccinated. take super at :47!!!! 5:41 chris nevin-woods “we’re very liberal on opting out of vaccines.” doctor chris nevin-woods, the medical director at el paso county public health…. says… the fears that vaccines cause other conditions, like autism, are unfounded. 2:10 “little toddlers, 15-18 mos, often that’s the time they’re vaccinated against mmr. and often, that’s when they start showing signs of autism.” additive dissolve to next bite 1:47 “many people don’t understand there’s a difference between causation and association.” additive dissolve to next bite 2:03 “we know that autism is not caused by vaccines.” dr. woods says.. by not vaccinating your own children …. you put other kids at risk, too. 3:53 “pass it through the classroom.” 2:53 “now we’re seeing measles outbreaks across the country.” that was heather skold reporting… you are required, by law, to provide an immunization chart to your child’s school. as is the case, if you plan to opt out. if your child is in class with unvaccinated children, parents are not notified… you can only be told the vaccination and exemption rates for the school. for a list of required vaccinations in colorado for kids in daycare, school, and college.. we’ve posted a link under the hot button at krdo dot com.
