Bridges on County Road 40 in Fremont County washed out

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in the county to keep an eye out for flash floods.

There was a Flash Flood Warning in effect for the Hayden Pass Fire burn scar Tuesday night.

“They were concerned with all the dead trees back there towards Rainbow Trail but we just didn’t expect it like this,” said Time Davis, a Coledale resident.

According to the National Weather Service, flash flooding was reported along Little Cottonwood Creek and people were stranded in the Dinkle Ditch Road area. The storm was so strong it ripped a bridge from a backyard, sending it down a creek.

“It’s coming back over to the south side of the property and it’s becoming another creek. So now we have to get someone to come in and dig it back out so it’s like what it’s supposed to be,” Davis said.

Significant debris is piled up along buildings in the area of Butter Creek and Big Cottonwood Creek.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office stated on Wednesday afternoon that County Road 40 is open and was not damaged by the flood.

Dinkle Ditch Road is open to local traffic only, however a bridge on that road was damaged.

Damage to homes and property are still being assessed. Authorities are expecting to see some with water-related issues.

No school bus stops or routes were affected by flooding.

No injuries have been reported.

Residents are asked to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
