Man in stolen vehicle leads CSP on brief pursuit down I-25

A man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Colorado Springs after he led Colorado State Patrol on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle down Interstate 25.

Officer Clint Schumm was monitoring traffic around E. Cimarron Street and I-25 construction when a driver, later identified as Abraham Paquet, attempted to travel through a closed area at just before 2 a.m.

When Schumm approached the vehicle, Paquet sped off down the southbound lane of Interstate 25. CSP pursued Paquet for a short time and then called it off.

Not long after, the same vehicle exited northbound I-25 at Cimarron and came to a stop in front of another officer working construction traffic in that area. The officer noticed the vehicle as the one that had just run from CSP earlier and immediately arrested the driver.

After further investigation, troopers discovered that the vehicle Paquet was driving, a 2014 Mercedes Benz, had been reported stolen to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

Paquet was taken to CJC on charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, Felony Eluding and numerous traffic charges.
