Man breaks in during basketball tournament at South High School

A Pueblo basketball tournament was interrupted Sunday by a man who illegally entered South High School and pulled the fire alarm

Police say 37-year-old Brandon Wright broke in near the main office of the school and pulled the alarm.

Wright also sprayed fire extinguishing foam over the inside of the school and broke a window.

Pueblo Fire Department and Pueblo Police Department responded to the school. Before police took him into custody, Wright told them he was mentally ill wanted an ambulance to pick him up.

Those attending the tournament said this was not what they expected during a basketball tournament.
“We have so many kids here, so I just assumed that one of the kids was playing around,” parent Tanya Burney-Dobbin said. “So knowing that he was probably crazy, after hearing everything that was going on, you feel like, ‘Oh no, where are my kids?'”

The estimated cost of the damage is around $1,500.
