Pueblo Pride Festival expresses message “love must prevail”

The annual Pueblo Pride Festival was held on Sunday, and its theme was love must prevail.

For 15 years the LGBTQ community has been coming together for the Pueblo Pride Festival, and after the recent tragedy in Orlando, this year’s event took on a whole new meaning.

Following the festival was a parade. Parade participants wearing paper chains around their necks told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that it was a message stating that there is a link between everyone in the community and that it also establishes diversity.

The vice president of the Southern Colorado Equality Alliance spoke to KRDO about the tragedy that struck Orlando and explained how it influenced parade organizers.

“The incident at Pulse nightclub in Orlando has rattled our community to be able to come together and celebrate each other, and what we’ve accomplished where we are today is really important,” said Tommy Farrell, SCEA Vice President.

County Commissioner Buffie McFadyen and Councilman Ed Brown declared August 21 as Pueblo LGBTQ Pride Day as part of the celebration.
