Marathon brings crowds

Racers from all around the country crossed the finish line for the Pikes Peak Marathon Sunday.

“This is my first marathon of any kind, my first pikes peak for sure,” said David Weis, a runner in the marathon.

The marathon brought not only racers, but spectators to cheer them on and support the city.

“It’s nice to set up for it everybody gets excited about it and you know it brings a different energy and vibe to the community,” said Aloisious Lucero, a manager at Hell’s Kitchen.

The Loop sits at the end of the race and they saw an increase of customers because of the crowds.

“Out of state, out of the country, from all over the world” said Matt Gray, the owner of The Loop.

Business owners say the event not only helps bring people into their doors but brings recognition to the community.

“It always brings in new people, a lot of travelers,” Lucero said.

Gray said as a business owner, he enjoys the events Manitou Springs hosts.

“We’re always prepared, the weekends are always good in the summer whether there’s an event or not,” Gray said.

Locals also say they love seeing the visitors to the area.

“This is awesome and this helps put Colorado Springs, especially Manitou Springs on the map,” Weis said.
