Elderly driver who hit, killed teen in Denver was drunk

An 81-year-old woman was legally drunk when she crashed into and killed a Denver teenager.

The Denver Post reports (http://goo.gl/4FEMvE ) Patricia Livingston’s blood-alcohol content measured 0.135 percent after the crash. The legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

Livingston, a longtime University of Denver trustee, died 10 days after the July 13 crash that killed 14-year-old Cole Sukle and injured his 13-year-old friend. Police say she was swerving in and out of traffic and failed to negotiate a curve when she hit the teens as they stood on the sidewalk and a bike lane. She kept driving and crashed into a nearby creek.

Livingston’s family says they limited her driving after she crashed into a stopped car in October. The other driver didn’t want to press charges.

The toxicology tests were released Friday.
