Parade will honor veterans in Cripple Creek Saturday

The second oldest Pearl Harbor survivor will serve as grand marshal of the Salute to American Veterans Parade in Cripple Creek Saturday.

Lt. Jim Downing, 102, will lead the 24th annual parade, which starts at 10 a.m. on Main Street.

Downing was stationed on the USS West Virginia during the Pearl Harbor attacks. He will turn 103 on Monday.

The parade will be followed by a POW-MIA remembrance ceremony at city park.
