Sexually violent predator notification issued for Colorado Springs neighborhood

The Colorado Springs Police Department says a sexually violent predator has registered as homeless in a neighborhood on the southern edge of downtown.

James Patrick Dauer, 58, is registered as living in the area of 5 W. Las Vegas Street, near the Springs Rescue Mission.

Police say Dauer was convicted of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 13 in Pennsylvania in 2002, sexual assault in Pennsylvania in 2002, aggravated sexual assault in Houston, Texas in 1988 and aggravated sexual assault in Amarillo, Texas in 1985.

Dauer is one of 16 registered sexually violent predators in Colorado Springs.

Law enforcement is required to notify the community whenever a sexually violent predator moves to a new address.
