One year later, construction continues on Chestnut

a infrastructure failure led to a street caving in – the hole on chestnut… is still there. and that closure near i-25 and fillmore won’t end anytime soon. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live there tonight asking what’s taking so long. greg, neighbors aren’t happy. james, they’re not. the city says it’s because of the scope of the damage. they don’t call it a sinkhole – but a support bridge underneath this stretch of chestnut which collapsed. the road on top gave way – and since then … you’ve had this mess. it’s taken a lot of time to get any progress – and neighbors are left wondering how much more. it’s hard to believe this hole on chestnut formed just over a year ago. fast forward to now… and the sound of constructio n has become all too familiar. sot: i didn’t know all the gamit of the layout, i knew it was going to be an inconvenience with foot traffic, traffic. sot: not only are there more people… there are faster people. many say they’re done with the detours – fearing for safety. sot: there are increased stop signs trying to slow people down, but we haven’t noticed much improvement. but the city engineers … insist progress is being made. sot: what we had to do was lay the slopes back to make sure everything was stable. the city released a plan earlier this year – citing a project like this would typically take two years to complete. engineers are promising sooner… with the biggest placement beginning later this month. sot: the project is on schedule from the first schedule we gave out. we’ll be done in november. but many are skeptical … sot: my husband and i left for a month, we’re teachers, for a road trip, and we were kind of expecting to see something when we got back. we got back and there wasn’t any change as far as we could tell. hoping thanksgiving brings closure… to the closure. money for the project was already approved … as for other areas with similar design, engineers say there’s no immediate threat for something like this to happen in other parts of the springs, live, gm, nc 13. engineers say there’s no immediate threat for something like this to happen in other parts of the springs, live, gm, nc 13. new at 10, the pueblo county sheriff’s office new
