Black Hills Energy wants to increase bills for Pueblo customers
Black Hills Energy is close to finishing a 40-megawatt, natural gas-fired power plant.
The Pueblo Airport generating station is being built in order to comply with the Clean Air Act.
The new law requires cleaner burning fuel sources.
“This new turbine, this new addition here… is designed to replace the 42 megawatts that were retired,” said Christopher Burke, Black Hills Energy VP Electric Op.
To cover the cost of the plant, Black Hills is requesting an $8.8 million increase. That is about $5 extra a month for typical residential customers.
The Sierra Club will host a public hearing for Black Hills Energy customers on Tuesday. It will start at 4 p.m. at the Pueblo Convention Center.
