DIA Plane Pull raises money for Special Olympics

Hundreds gathered at Denver International Airport Saturday morning, but this was no log jam at the TSA booth; it was all for a good cause.

It was the Special Olympics Colorado annual Plane Pull.

The fundraiser has brought in more than $250,000 to the program.

The event itself is no small test of strength. Teams compete for the fastest time as they try to pull a Boeing 757 twelve feet using just a rope and a lot of elbow grease.

Justin Combs with Team “Denver Plain Clothes Pull-ice” says, “You’re looking at this plane-thing and there’s no way it’s going to move. Then you start pulling and you get it going, and it’s a great feeling.”

The Special Olympics program doesn’t charge athletes to participate, so it relies on fundraisers like Saturday’s Plane Pull to keep the program alive.
