Prisons chief murder investigation to remain open
The investigation into the murder of Colorado prisons chief Tom Clements will remain open.
El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder will keep the case open after hearing from several local, state and federal law enforcement colleagues.
In June, Elder said that he was going to close the case because there wasn’t evidence linking anyone but Evan Ebel to the killing.
Sheriff Elder then wrote letters to various agencies asking if they objected to his decision.
Ebel, who was a member of the white supremacist 211 Crew prison gang, murdered Clements at his home near Monument in 2013.
Investigators believe Ebel killed Nathan Leon of Commerce City, then used Leon’s pizza uniform as a disguise to kill Clements.
Ebel later died in a shootout with police in Texas.
