New street sweepers in Colorado Springs

Eight new street sweepers are on the roads in Colorado Springs.

The new equipment is the city’s first line of defense when it comes to keeping the filth on the roads away from the streams and waterways.

Not only will the machines allow the city to better comply with the EPA’s Clean Water Act concerning dust control, but it will take eight of the worst sweepers out of the fleet of 13.

“Prior to this, we were running some pretty old equipment. Some of it a decade old, and it just wasn’t doing the job for us,” said Jack Ladley, operations manager.

The sweepers were leased using the city’s general fund for a total of $380,000 annually for five years.
