Manitou P.D. outsources animal law enforcement to HSPPR

The Manitou Springs Police Department has signed a contract with The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) to provide animal law enforcement services.

The contract is in effect as of today.

“The management and enforcement of our City Ordinances related to domestic animals has been an ancillary responsibility of the Police Department, and quite frankly, we’ve had a difficult time giving it deserved attention,” said Manitou Springs Police Chief Joe Ribeiro. “We are excited to partner with the HSPPR ALE (Animal Law Enforcement) to provide this needed service to our community, and we look forward to working with these motivated professionals,” Ribeiro said.

HSPPR says animal law enforcement responsibilities include picking up stray dogs, conducting animal cruelty and neglect investigations, rescuing animals in danger, checking on injured animals, responding to aggressive animal reports, investigating noisy pet complaints, ensuring licensing and vaccination requirements are met, and more.

Manitou Springs joins Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Fountain, Monument, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Douglas County and the City of Centennial in getting its animal law enforcement services from HSPPR.

People who live in Manitou Springs and need animal law enforcement services can call 719-302-8798.
