CSP traffic stop leads to arrest of man wanted for attempted murder

A traffic stop made by Colorado State Patrol ended in the arrest of a man wanted on multiple warrants including Attempted 1 st Degree Murder on Friday.

CSP pulled over a vehicle in Sanford, Colo. at around 2 p.m. While talking with the driver, the trooper recognized Matthew Gray, 43, in the backseat. Gray gave the trooper a fake name when asked to identify himself.

According to CSP, the trooper was able to get a fingerprint scan indenting Gray. This led to the discovery of the several warrants out for his arrest, including an Attempted 1 st Degree Murder warrant was out of Alamosa.

Gray was being sought after by the San Luis Valley Community Corrections after he reportedly assaulted a staff member at the facility last November.

While taking Gray into custody, they found suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle was released without charges. Another passenger ran from the trooper and was later found by the Conejos Sheriff’s Office. He was also arrested for several warrants.
