Clinton seeks convention bump with speech Thursday

Hillary Clinton only has to look a week into the past to know how much of a difference a political convention can make in the polls.

Going into the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last week, Donald Trump trailed Clinton by several point.

However, when it was over, several nationwide polls showed he had surpassed and was leading by several points.

Clinton gave the crowd in Philadelphia a brief thrill Wednesday night when she made a brief appearance on stage at the end of a powerful speech by President Barack Obama.

Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Vice Presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine all spoke about the party’s accomplishments over the last 4 to 8 years, and the need to elect Hillary Clinton to continue that momentum.

Kaine and Obama in particular recognized the campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders and the progressive movement he inspired.

Convincing Sanders supporters to get behind Hillary is something Democrats have struggled to achieve.

Two delegates from Colorado told KRDO Newschannel 13 that the collection of speeches Wednesday will have an impact in that effort.

However, one delegate from California said that he and many others weren’t going to be swayed by speeches from Kaine or Obama.

That would have to be done by Hillary herself.

She will get her chance Thursday.
