UPDATE: Identity of soldier who died after morning PT released

Fort Carson is investigating the death of a soldier on Post Monday morning.

The soldier, whose name has not been released, collapsed at around 7:30 a.m., just after completing routine physical training.

Fort Carson says the soldier was taken to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs and pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m.

Officials at the mountain post identified the soldier as Spc. Matthew R. Hester, 28.

Spc. Hester was a combat medic had been in the army for 1 year and 4 months.

The cause of his death is under investigation.
