Man dies trying to escape from apartment fire in Denver

A man witnesses say had been dangling from the window of second-floor Denver apartment on fire died after falling to the sidewalk below.

Firefighters say the unidentified man was on the ground and unresponsive when they arrived in the 3800 block of North Federal Boulevard early Wednesday morning and they were unable to resuscitate him.

Neighbors say they tried to find blankets or a ladder to help him but the man either fell or jumped before they were able to assist.

Firefighters were able to rescue three other people from the roof of an adjacent building.
