Bernie supporters undeterred on Day 2 of DNC

For many, the Democratic National Convention made history Tuesday because for the first time ever, a woman was nominated for president.

For others, however, this will go down as the day that the effort to nominate Bernie Sanders officially ended.

When it was Colorado’s turn to cast its ballots, 36 votes went to Hillary Clinton, with 41 going to Bernie Sanders.

It did little to derail Hillary Clinton, who easily received the required number of votes to be officially nominated.

But if any Bernie supporters were still holding out hope for some type of strange miracle, that ended with the official end of roll-call, with none other than Sanders himself making the motion to end the voting, “I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for President of the United States!”

After the nomination, dozens of Bernie delegates left, joining others outside the Wells Fargo Arena to make their voices heard.

At a park just outside the convention, Sanders supporters waved signs and chanted, hoping for an outcome that now seems as unlikely as ever.

“I’ve been following Bernie for a long time,” says Jennifer DeRocco, who made the journey from Utica, New York, “He’s a man of integrity. He’s the person that should be our nominee”

Jennifer says that she’s still not convinced that Hillary will fight for her in Washington, “[Bernie]’s the only one that’s going to change things. You can’t change corruption with corruption.”

Another protestor tells us that he’s not holding out for the miracle nomination; today was more about getting out a message. Says Mark Iberg of Austin, Texas, “The issues that were raised by the Bernie Sanders campaign are finally being heard by a lot of people”

Dozens of protestors were detained and cited Monday for holding sit-ins and climbing a fence that blocked Bernie supporters from the main convention.

As of late Tuesday, however, there were no reports of arrests.
