Report of armed man in Springs park believed to be case of ‘swatting’

The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating an apparent case of swatting after receiving a call about a man armed with guns and bombs in a city park.

Officers rushed to Monument Valley Park in the 200 block of W. Bijou Street at around 4:35 p.m. Monday.

Someone called 9-1-1 claiming that there was a person in the park with an AK-47 and another firearm. The caller also said that the man had planted bombs in the park and wanted to kill police officers.

Investigators say they did not find any evidence of an armed man or explosives at the park, but they did uncover evidence of swatting.

Swatting is when someone calls and falsely reports a serious emergency at a specific location with the goal of sending the SWAT team to that location.
