Man accused of road rage shooting off Hwy 24 expected in court today

A man accused of firing two rounds at a driver on Highway 24 is expected in court Monday.

James Paul Barrett is facing numerous charges and will make his first appearance about the incident.

Manitou Springs Police Department believe the incident was brought on by road rage.

According to reports, James Barrett, 24, was on a motorcycle traveling eastbound down Highway 24 when he fired his gun at a black SUV near Cave of the Winds. The SUV had at least one bullet hole located in the back, left side door. The driver of the SUV then hit the motorcycle, causing Barrett to crash.

Barrett was treated for minor injuries caused by the collision and was released. He is charged with attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Felony Menacing, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Carry of a Concealed Weapon and Disorderly Contact.
