SB I-25 Back open after DUI driver hits three cars
Southbound lanes of I-25 were closed two times Saturday night after two separate accidents.
The first accident involved two cars near the Greenland exit Saturday afternoon when a person driving a Volvo rear-ended a Chevy Sedan according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP). Four people in the sedan were injured and taken to hospitals in Colorado Springs. One person did have serious injuries but is expected to be okay.
The second crash involved a suspected impaired driver and shut down the highway for nearly five hours in the same location. It started at mile marker 171 near Castle Rock and the scene ended near mile marker 167 at Greenland.
CSP says the driver ran into at least three other cars and kept driving. That’s when police starting chasing the car. The chase ended when the driver crashed the vehicle in Greenland. Because the scene was so extensive, the highway was shutdown from 7:45 p.m. to 11:55 p.m Saturday night.
This caused several problems for drivers who were heading back to Southern Colorado after a Rockies game in Denver or the Renaissance Festival in Larkspur. No one was seriously hurt in this accident, however the driver was arrested. At this time, we’re not sure exactly what charges they will face.
