Clinton, Kaine make first appearance as 2016 Democratic ticket

The 2016 Democratic presidential ticket was officially unveiled Saturday when Hillary Clinton and Virginia senator made their first stop together on the campaign trail in Miami.

Over the last several days, Kaine emerged as the clear favorite before Clinton made it official via a text to supporters Friday night.

Kaine is the former governor of Virginia, he now serves on the Armed Services committee and Foreign Relations committees

He also speaks fluent Spanish.

“He is qualified to step into this job and lead on day one,” Clinton said. “And, he is a progressive who likes to get things done.”

In his speech, Kaine started playing the role of attack dog against Donald Trump.

“We’ve seen again and again that when Donald Trump says he has your back, you better watch out,” Kaine said. “From Atlantic City to his so-called university, he leaves a trail of broken promises and wrecked lives wherever he goes. We can’t afford to let him do the same thing to our country and folks, we don’t have to because Hillary Clinton is the direct opposite of Donald Trump.”

Kathleen Ricker, the Chair of the El Paso County Democratic Party worked on Kaine’s campaign for governor when she lived in Virginia.

In a statement to KRDO NewsChannel 13 Ricker said of Kaine’s selection:

“He believes that we move forward by bringing people together, not driving them apart — and that makes him just the right partner to help Hillary reject the efforts of those who seek to divide us and carry out a progressive agenda built on the belief that we are stronger together.”
