Motorcycle fatalities have increased statewide, says CDOT

Motorcycle deaths across the state of Colorado have increased, according to new data from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The department says there have been 58 motorcycle fatalities so far in 2016, which is a 14 percent increase from 2015. Of those incidents, 34 involved riders who were not wearing helmets.

Last year there were 105 recorded motorcycle deaths, which was an all-time high in Colorado.

Data from the Governors Highway Safety Association suggests that the number of fatalities also increased nationwide by about 10 percent between 2014 and 2015.
