Hugo reacts to evidence of THC in drinking water

Don’t drink or cook with your water – that’s the warning for the small town of Hugo after THC was found in the public water supply.
Hugo is a town of 720 people in Lincoln County.
It’s roughly 90 miles east of Colorado Springs.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s office says the investigation began after a routine employee drug test that unexpectedly came back positive for THC.
In an effort to show what a pure test result looked like, they tested a vial of tap water.
To everyone’s surprise the local water tested positive for THC.
Next authorities looked at all the water in Hugo, eventually leading them to water well No. 1. Investigators found signs of a break-in and tampering. Evidence was collected however investigators won’t go into detail.

“We don’t disagree with science, THC is not soluble in water, however, we have field test results that say THC is in tap water that was poured from a faucet,” said Mike Yowell with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office.
There’s a lot of confusion about the combination of water and THC.
Yowell tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that it’s not possible to spike water with marijuana.
Despite that, THC levels are being detected in Hugo’s water through field testing.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigations is now doing more conclusive testing.
Hugo’s residents who want to pick up free bottled water can go to 522 2nd Avenue.
Pick up will be available until 10 p.m. on Friday. Operations open again at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Testing results will not be available until Saturday.
