Pueblo heat leads to business

Near triple-digit temperatures have people in Pueblo looking to beat the heat.

“Once it hits 100 degrees or more people want to get in the water,” said Bob Walker, the owner of The Edge in Pueblo.

But with it comes good news for some local businesses.

“It gets real hot and you don’t see many people wandering around on the street shopping, but then everything that we have that floats and can rent out is out for the day,” Walker said.

With Lake Pueblo so close, Walker said business is good.

But it’s not the only hot spot in the heat.

“These hot and dry times we’ve had for the past couple days is great. Chile likes it hot, they like it dry,” said Shane Milberger from Milberger Farms.

The Pueblo chilies are thriving right now and that’s because of all of the mountain runoff water seen this year.

“If we did not have that water, we would be hurting. But we have heat and we have water, and that’s the combination we need right now to make what makes Pueblo famous,” Milberger said.

And if you can stand to sweat a little longer, “we’ll be harvesting shortly,” Milberger said.
