Monsoon rains trigger mudslides in Southwestern Colorado

Mudslides closed a highway near Telluride in Southwestern Colorado Wednesday.

The slides spread mud and rocks across Highway 145 between the towns of Sawpit and Placerville.

The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said one lane was being used to let eastbound and westbound traffic get through the area in intervals.

Placerville is about a 5 1/2 hour drive southwest of Colorado Springs.
