Local law enforcement takes precautions after deadly police shooting

The Baton Rouge police shooting has given another reason for local law enforcement to be on edge.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they won’t follow Denver’s lead to only send patrol officers out in pairs.

Undersheriff Joe Breister cited staffing and response times as the reason.

“If we have 10 people working a shift, we’d be down to five. There are people who would call in a priority for an immediate response… that wouldn’t get anyone for 20 minutes,” he said.

He admitted several deputies feel uneasy given the attacks, but pointed out they still have to do their jobs, regardless.

“I know the makeup and integrity of people who wear the badge in this community and they are the finest in this country,” he said, referring to law enforcement throughout the county.
