Device brought to Federal Center not a bomb

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – The Latest on the bomb threat the Federal Center in suburban Denver (all times local):

2:40 p.m.

A woman is under arrest after bringing what she claimed was a bomb to the sprawling Federal Center in suburban Denver.

A spokeswoman for the General Services Administration, Sally Mayberry, said the woman made the claim after walking up to one of the complex’s gates Monday. Mayberry said she had backpack with wires hanging out of it but investigators later determined it was not a bomb.

Two buildings and a construction site were evacuated while the bomb squad responded. Television helicopter footage showed a technician hooking up a wire to a device sitting on the ground next to a white backpack before it was detonated.

The Federal Center houses 28 federal agencies in 44 buildings in Lakewood.
