Water demand increases in Colorado Springs

Demand for water in Colorado Springs is up compared to this time last year.

Summer is the peak season for water usage.

Colorado Springs Utilities officials tell us it is at 90 percent of its capacity. The average at this time of year is 83 percent.

Snowpack from the winter months has helped the water supply, but CSU encourages consumers to use water wisely.

Colorado Springs Utilities works with the Southern Delivery System, pulling water from the Pueblo Reservoir. CSU said it acts as a backup to its own system.

“The Southern Delivery System provides diversity in how we use our water system, so we’re able to move water to different reservoirs and make sure we have enough water when our customers need it,” said Colorado Springs Spokesperson Patrice Lehermeier.
