Fort Carson Fire 95% contained, cause released

Fort Carson says a fire that is burning at the south end of the Post has burned 720 acres. It is 95% contained.

The fire began at around 6 p.m. July 10 on a training range on the south side of the Post.

Fort Carson says the fire was caused by extremely hot M1A1 Abrams battle tank vehicle exhaust during maneuver training in dry vegetation.

There was no live fire gunnery training going on in the area at the time the fire started.
