Community meeting answers residents’ Hayden Pass Fire questi

jarman. first tonight breaking news on the hayden pass fire, burning in fremont county. firefighters say a large air tanker is dropping fire retardent.. as the fire inches closer to the town of coaldale.. about 40 miles west of canon city. the fire has grown slightly tonight to nearly 13- thousand acres with still no containment so far. crews say 242 firefighters from across the country are working the fire. here’s a look at the newest mandatory evacuation for county road 35, west of county road one-a. people on county road six, south of county road 45.. and the fox creek subdivision were evacuated on monday. and we have team coverage tonight on the hayden pass fire. stormtracker 13 chief meterologist rachael plath tracking when firefighters will get any relief with the weather. but first, krdo newschannel 13’s emily allen is live from the fire camp in salida. she was at a community meeting earlier tonight in nearby cotopaxi getting new information. fighters are restinghere after another long day on the fire. a spokesperson told me … its days like today that firefighters die… the fire flared up in full force and the winds kept shifting but thankfully… no firefighters died and no homes burned. evacuees packed into cotopaxi’s school tonight to get answers here is video of that meeting earlier. people got to ask about their specific properties. everyone i spoke to says they wish they got to ask more questions, but they were pleased over all with this meeting. this fire flared up big time today… and firefighters are letting it burn through federal land … in the hopes it will take out all the dead trees from beetle kill. firefighters are stationed by homes… cutting down trees, installing sprinklers … trying to give these homes a fighting chance. we spoke to evacuees who say they are grateful their homes are still standing. super: debbie gaj, evacuee 1 – 055433 i am reassured that it is gone for a few days and no homes have burned yet but the wind could change things in a minute, i know how the wind is around here super: robert joslen, evacuees 5 – 060903 i am blessed to have that place and i hope it is there when this is still over. you just have to get your attitude right, you know there is not a bigger aircraft thats joined the fight. it drops 3- thousand pounds of retardent at one time. there will be another community meeting tomorrow at 2 pm in westcliffe… innthe chafee county high school gym. the hayden pass fire’s creating uncertainty tonight.. for the rainbow trail lutheran camp, forced to evacuate last night. that camp is southeast of coaldale .. and voluntarily evacuated to a school in westcliffe. 120 teens and 65 staff members don’t know if they’ll return to finish the week at the camp. and it’s unclear if the next group of campers will be allowed in this weekend. we just met with horn creek, another camp down here, and they have the possibility of taking us in there next week, if we can get all of the details to work out. so we’ve got that as a possibility.” it’s the second time in five years a wildfire’s interrupted the camp
