Army’s World Class Athlete Program will send 15 soliders to Rio

Sergeant Nathan Schrimsher will represent Fort Carson, the Army and America as he competes in the Olympic Modern Pentathlon this summer, “It’s been an exciting journey over the past year just prepping and getting ready and stuff.” A unique event, the modern pentathlon forces athletes like Schrimsher to be mentally and physically tough, “Fencing’s like chess, you’re riding a horse that you’ve never met before and you have to control that horse. Then you gotta run your butt off and be accurate while you’re shooting. I think that says enough in and of itself there.”

He hopes to walk away from Brazil, a champion, “I’m going there for gold.”

Elizabeth Marks will compete in the paralympics in swimming, her goal for the Games had nothing to do with the medal stand, “If one person sees my story and decides to get up and get out and find adaptive sports, or writing, or a new passion in life, that would be my gold medal.”
