Fallen Dallas officers inspire new generation of law enforcers

With the loss of five Dallas police officers weighing heavy on many, the events are having an especially profound effect on the nation’s newest crop of police recruits.

Officer Zachary Corey of the Fountain P.D. has only been on the job for six months.

We caught up to him at a recent training exercise focused on active shooter threats.

He graduated from the police academy just this past December.

Corey comes from a family tradition of public service, his own father having been a police officer.

He says rather than leaving him discouraged, the events of this past week have inspired him to be a better officer.

“If a situation like that occurred again, closer to home,” ponders Corey, “what can I, what can we do to save more lives?”

Corey says the sacrifices of those in Dallas were a somber but inspiring reminder of why he chose to follow in his father’s footsteps.
