Severe weather damages cars and homes in Security-Widefield

One of the hardest hit areas from Thursday night’s storm was Security-Widefield.

Golf ball-sized hail pounded neighborhoods, and many people spent Friday morning cleaning up and evaluating damage.

“[The hail] got here, down there, down here and on the hood,” said Michael Deckard, Security-Widefield.

Hail pounded Deckard’s brand-new car.

“It’s like golf ball. Some of them a little bigger than golf ball size [hail],” said Deckard.

Almost every car on Grand Boulevard and Hackberry Drive had some type of hail damage, including shattered car windows.

One man had no idea his windshield had damage until KRDO told him.

“As you pointed out to me, because I didn’t know till minutes ago, we apparently lost our windshield. [It] was just installed in the car about three months ago,” said Tom Silvis, Security-Widefield.

Silvis said the hail that hit his home was unlike anything he’s ever seen.

“About 11:10, 11:20 it started coming down in more force, and that’s when we came out on the front step. We could tell the whole front lawn was covered with hail, about an inch diameter of hailstones,” said Silvis.

Another woman woke up to similar damage on her car.

“It was about 11:30 last night we heard the hail from our back patio and came out front. That’s when we noticed the windshield was shattered,” said Karie Mullins, Security-Widefield.

Mullins’ windshield was shattered, her gutter was ruined and the patio and trampoline were hit hard.

The damage left behind was a sign of just how strong the storm was.
