Vietnam War memorial makes its way to Home of Heroes

It’s a moving memorial that gives people a chance to see the names of the soldiers who gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Wall That Heals monument is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. and it made its way to the Home of Heroes Wednesday.

“It has special meaning for us Vietnam veterans. We all know somebody on that wall,” Vietnam War veteran Don Goode said.

Goode knows several people on the wall.

“I lost friends. I have a relative who is on the wall,” he said.

That’s why Goode led the ride to transport a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial from Fremont County Airport to the Roselawn Funeral Home in Pueblo.

The Wall That Heals is meant to give people a chance to honor and remember the soldiers who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.

“It’s very healing to open up and start talking about the things they remember and the things that happened,” site manager Patrick O’Neill said.

The wall has 58,515 names on it, including 64 names of soldiers from Pueblo County.

An opening ceremony for the wall will take place at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Pueblo.
