Falling tree kills Colorado man

A Colorado man was killed and two others were injured when a large cottonwood tree snapped and fell on them in western Nebraska.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says 49-year-old Matthew Weaver of Loveland, Colorado died after the tree landed on him on Sunday at Lake Minatare State Recreation Area.

The commission says 44-year-old Mark Pennell of Lakewood, Colorado and 31-year-old Daniel Randall of Bayard, Nebraska, were injured.

Pennell was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Randall was taken to the Scottsbluff hospital, but he wasn’t listed as a patient there Monday afternoon.

Authorities say one of the men was able to free himself, and a good Samaritan used a tractor to lift the tree off the other two.
