Sexual assault suspect arrested in Colorado Springs

A Colorado Springs man is in custody after an assault on the west side of the city, according to Colorado Springs police.

The incident happened just after midnight on Thursday. Officers were called to a building near the intersection of North 17th Street and West Dale Street.

The victim told officers from the special victims unit that she had been physically and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

During the course of the investigation, a potential suspect was identified.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, police arrested Joey Martin Cordova, 49, at his home in the 2300 block of Gunnison Street.

He is now facing charges of first-degree assault and sexual assault.
