People all over southern Colorado honor family who died in train crash

People from all over southern Colorado are honoring the lives of five family members Friday. They died in a train crash.

Steve and Christina Miller, along with their three daughters, were killed when a train struck their van on Sunday near Trinidad. Their 4-year-old daughter survived.

It was a room full of emotion at the Hoehne High School gym.

“We are sorrowful. We grieve at the loss of our family and these precious little granddaughters,” Christina’s father, Daniel Good, said.

Pastor Alvin Yoder said he will remember the good times he had with the Millers.

“Very gentle, loving, caring people,” he said.

Organizers of the service decided to use the gym because they were expecting a large group of people.

“It is the support that is needed at this time. It is helpful,” Good said.

He said he appreciates the support, especially after a devastating loss. The 4-year-old is in stable condition and the family plans on picking up where her parents left off by taking care of her when she gets out of the hospital.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said safety improvements are in the works for the train crossing at which the Millers died, but nothing is finalized. The proposed improvements include gates and warning signals.
